We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian landscape paintings typically feature natural scenery, rural settings, and topographical views created during the nineteenth century. Artists often focused on romanticised nature, atmospheric light effects, dramatic weather, and detailed depictions of British countryside locations.

Artists during this period primarily applied oil-based pigments onto stretched linen canvas or wooden panels. Frames were generally constructed from timber with carved detailing or gilded gesso moulding to protect and display the artwork.

Authentic pieces usually display age-appropriate craquelure across the paint layer, natural oxidisation on the reverse of the canvas or wooden stretcher, and period-correct brush technique. Artist signatures, gallery labels, or stencil marks on the back of the canvas also assist in authentication.

A dark, atmospheric landscape can serve as a focal point when mounted above a mantelpiece or console table. Positioning traditional artworks against contemporary wall colours or within a curated gallery wall creates an effective visual contrast in modern living spaces.

Keep the painting in a climate-controlled room away from direct sunlight, dampness, and heat sources. Clean the surface gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to remove loose dust, avoiding household cleaners or water which can damage the varnish.
