FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), typically characterised by solid proportions, functional layouts, and various revival influences ranging from Gothic to neoclassical motifs.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised timbers such as mahogany, walnut, pine, and oak. Construction featured hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer boxes and secondary softwoods for internal framing.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage lines, original brass or ceramic hardware, and tool marks consistent with period woodworking practices rather than modern machinery.

Pairing a brightly painted or muted heritage-colour piece with minimalist modern surroundings creates a striking focal point that balances traditional craftsmanship with clean, modern aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaning agents and excessive moisture to protect the integrity of both the historic wood underneath and the painted surface finish.
