Description

A beautiful large Japanese Meiji Period patinated bronze study of an elephant with tigers, signed on the belly, Meiji period, 1868-1912, and late 19th Century in date.

The finely cast sculpture shows a striding elephant with it's head and trunk raised fighting two tigers. The tigers with stripes delineated in subtly-toned patination, the elephant with finely carved bone tusks, the cartouche on the underside signed, and raised on a decorative rustic wooden stand.
