Size: 3ft 3in x 3ft 1in (100 x 95cm).

Antique Tekke Turkmen rug of small square size, these rugs are generally considered to be ‘dowry’ weavings.

Circa 1880.

This is an good example with the Tekke 'aina gul' design to the field. This design is normally found on small fine weavings such as chuval and torba. The rug is of very fine weave with the design drawn with precise detail. The main border is of the 'Flag' design or 'Tekbent' design as it is known to the Turkmen, this border is found on early Tekke weavings. Note the very well drawn large elem end panels with the Turkmen tree design.

The rug is in good condition with even wear and medium pile.

The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
