FAQs

Georgian furniture spans the 18th century and is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and refined craftsmanship, often utilising imported dense timbers like mahogany.

Traditional chests are constructed using solid timber frameworks, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, and secondary woods like pine or oak for internal linings.

Authenticity is assessed by examining tool marks, hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, original brass hardware, and the presence of period secondary woods.

This type of foundational piece provides functional storage while adding historical texture, working well as a contrasting anchor point in contemporary neutral living spaces or bedrooms.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and occasionally applying pure beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
