Portrait of Lord Macartney (1737-1806)

Description

An 18th century oval portrait, oil on canvas, of Lord Macartney in original giltwood frame, sporting a wig with silk scarf and brown coat with blue velvet collar. The portrait was painted before he became Lord Macartney, he had previously attended Trinity College, Dublin. He was later appointed Governor of the British West Indies in 1775, then of Grenada 1776-9, Governor of Madras 1781-85 and the finally Governor of Cape Colony 1797-98.See Wikipedia for further information. Canvas size 76x 64cm. Conversely if you don’ t need the history you can take off the label and he can be one of your own ancestors and a smart chap at that!
