Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Oushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in western Turkey, which has been a major centre for rug production since the Ottoman Empire. Known for their distinctive soft wool, muted pastel palettes, and large-scale geometric or floral motifs, they became highly sought-after in European and American interior design.

These carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation threads, often incorporating cotton or wool warps and wefts. Natural vegetable dyes derived from plants, roots, and insects are utilised to achieve their characteristic earthy and muted tones.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the irregularities in hand-spinning and hand-knotting, the patina of the wool, and the complexity of the natural dye palette. Genuine older pieces feature soft, organic colour variations known as abrash and use symmetrical or asymmetrical knots characteristic of traditional Anatolian weaving.

An antique Oushak carpet functions as a versatile foundation that brings warmth and texture to contemporary, transitional, or traditional spaces. Its faded elegance and muted colours allow it to anchor minimalist furniture or complement eclectic, layered schemes without overwhelming the room.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without a beater bar, professional organic washing when needed, and keeping the carpet out of direct sunlight to prevent dye fading. Using a breathable rug underlay helps protect the wool fibres and prevents slipping.
