A soft toned and elegant antique Amritsar carpet with a beautifully woven design using classical elements from Indian weaving.    Woven around 1870  the dyes are all vegetable - the main field colour an unusual dye, green to biscuit to gold tones, all varying and adding depth to the palette.   Soft pinks famously used by amritsar weavers, the border is refined in design and colour, with faded dyes throughout.  This is an ancient looking carpet, which does have some scattered wear, but really it adds to the whole feel of this piece.  A hard to find, rare square size too.Amritsar rugs and carpets are produced in Amritsar located in the northwest of India, near the Kashmir region.
