FAQs

Antique floral watercolour paintings typically focus on botanical accuracy and expressive brushwork, capturing the ephemeral quality of fresh blooms through water-based pigments on paper or card.

These works were traditionally created using fine water-soluble pigments applied to rag paper or heavy-weight watercolour board, often using organic gum binders.

Authentication involves examining paper fibre content, ageing characteristics such as foxing or natural oxidisation, and verifying signatures against known artist registries or period style markers.

An antique painting adds a layer of heritage and texture when hung within a neutral scheme, often framed simply to highlight the delicate tonal qualities of the work.

Preservation requires framing behind UV-protective glass, maintaining stable humidity levels, and displaying the artwork away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
