Persian Village Rug, Circa 1900, 1.69m X 1.43m

1900 - 1920
Description

Dating to around 1900, this charming Persian Village rug was woven by settled Afshar weavers in the Sirjan district of south-east Persia, close to the city of Kirman. Although the solid structure of the weave, the drawing and format are very much in the rural style of the area, the inclusion of two large stylised vases in the field design suggests the influence of the famous 17th century Kirman 'Vase' carpets. As is quite typical with all the tribal groups in Persia, the Afshar weavers often took inspiration for designs from the local city woven carpets which in this case is Kirman where a major carpet weaving industry has existed since Safavid times. The two vases are a clear reference to the famous carpets, but they are combined with other geometric motifs and stylised trees to create a very charming composition. The colours are also very attractive, with a lovely abrashed pale red field, light blues and sapphire blues, whites and yellows. The rug is in generally good condition. There is one repair to note along the bottom right border. But otherwise the piece is sound and sturdy. Professionally cleaned. This rug is offered at a very keen price.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
