Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French realist sculpture of the nineteenth century focused on authentic representations of daily life, working-class subjects, and natural human postures rather than idealized classical figures. Artists emphasised textured surfaces, naturalistic drapery, and realistic human proportions.

Sculptures were typically cast using either the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand-casting method. Foundries poured molten copper alloy into precise moulds created from the sculptors original clay or plaster model, after which artisans applied chemical patination to achieve specific dark tones.

Authentic castings generally feature sharp detail in the cold work, stamped foundry marks or foundry inscriptions, and the sculptors incised signature. Inspection of the underside typically reveals age-appropriate oxidation and hand-chased assembly seams.

Dark patinated bronze items create strong visual grounding when positioned against pale backdrop surfaces or natural timber. Placing small sculptural works on structured shelving, mantelpieces, or consoles adds tactile texture and historical depth to modern schemes.

Preserve bronze surfaces by light dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and keeping the piece free from humidity and chemical cleaners. Microcrystalline wax may be applied sparingly and buffed gently to protect the original patination from oxidation.
