FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the four British monarchs named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavy, carved walnut to refined mahogany, incorporating classical architectural proportions and influences from Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton.

Master craftsmen typically utilised solid oak for interior carcases and drawer linings, veneered with highly figured flame mahogany on the exterior surfaces, and assembled pieces using traditional hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetailing, irregular wood shrinkage in secondary timbers like oak or pine, original brass hardware and backplates, and the natural patina developed through centuries of waxing.

An antique chest on stand serves as a striking focal point in a contemporary hallway or living space, providing vertical storage while introducing rich wood grain texture and historical contrast against neutral walls.

Antique mahogany should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, dusted with a soft dry cloth, and periodically treated with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood and maintain its protective finish.
