This is a fine quality antique English Victorian landscape watercolour painting, of a rural country scene; believed to be the River Severn before it leaves Wales, by Matthew Jarvis, circa 1870 its original frame, in good condition.
The artist captures the hazy atmospherics of the day, probably early afternoon, along with the depth and stillness of the river - a fisherman’s paradise! It is believed to be the River Severn, before it leaves Wales, as this painting came from the Shropshire / Welsh border, where it has resided for most of its life. The painting has the skill to draw you in with its range of mellow colour hues and texture depicting the quintessential Welsh country landscape. The Victorian watercolour picture, which is painted on paper on board, is signed “Matthew Jarvis” in the bottom right-hand corner. The watercolour is framed in its original ornate gilt frame, which is in good condition.
