Terrier Antiques at Hebden Bridge has dated this piece to the 1890s.

Around the edging of the main casing is an inscription reading ' J.H Puckering in memory of Robt. Woddward Killed In Action 9 May 1915 (battle of Aubers, first world war)
The loop aboce the crown is stamped 925 silver, the watch is very likely by J Verhagen & Co. Koeln, Calendrier Brevette German Manufactury.
