Antique Luri Tribal Rug. Lur Tribes of Luristan. Qashqai/khamseh Interest.

1900 - 1920
Description

South west persia,circa 1920.

This rug shares a lot of characteristics to qashqai weavings including the end weave design and the stunning ivory main border design of linked reciprocal birds heads doing their symbolic protecting job !

Notice the herringbone black & white side cords and the abrashed tonal colour within the red field.

This luri weaving almost certainly by either the boyer ahmadi or the mamasani group due to the red or orange red,yellow wefts as with this example.

All woollen weave with the wefts dyed yellow and brown.

Hand washed & dusted.

All over low even pile. Even fringes with blanket stitched ends..

6 foot inches by 4 foot 4 inches. 184cm X 132cm. At widest points. Fringes not measured in size.
