Pair of faux coromandel oval framed portrait prints with unusual original convex glass, circa 1900. The convex glass giving them a slightly three dimensional presence.

Both portraits of the beautifully dressed ladies are in good original condition.

Domed or convex glass frames became highly popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries, often used to enclose portraiture and prints. The curved glass added depth to the image while reducing flat surface reflection in lamp-lit interiors.

These frames usually feature a wooden or composite base treated with paint, lacquer, or stained veneers to imitate natural tortoiseshell or coromandel wood pattern, fitted with curved convex glass and paper print inserts.
