This mid-century realism oil painting on canvas depicts an elevated cityscape of Parisian rooftops, chimney pots, Haussmann architecture, and streets viewed from Notre Dame in Paris. Set in a natural wooden frame with a pale, whitewashed inner border, the composition presents a neutral palette of beige and grey tones with muted greens and browns. The artwork captures a detailed aerial perspective of architectural structures, rows of chimney pots, and urban thoroughfares below. The piece measures 85 cm high, 111 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Suitable for display in living spaces, dining areas, or studies, the painting hangs effectively above a sideboard or console table to bring a traditional French chateau aesthetic to interior walls. The solid timber frame provides a clean boundary that complements the urban subject matter while integrating with various interior styles.

FAQs

Parisian cityscape artwork focuses on capturing the urban layout, distinctive Haussmannian architecture, zinc rooftops, and iconic monuments of Paris. Artists often work from high vantage points to depict the rhythm of chimney pots, balconies, and wide avenues.

Most mid-century European cityscapes were created using oil or acrylic paint applied with brushes or palette knives on stretched cotton canvas or wood panel. Framing often featured soft wood slip linings surrounded by stained or painted wooden mouldings.

Authentic vintage oil paintings exhibit natural age characteristics, such as subtle craquelure, paint shrinkage, and oxidisation on the canvas reverse or wooden stretcher bars. Examining the brush stroke depth, signature style, and vintage framing hardware also helps confirm age.

Position the painting as a focal point above low-profile furniture like a sideboard, console, or sofa to ground the composition. Complement its neutral palette with contemporary timber finishes, muted textiles, and architectural brass lighting.

Dust the surface lightly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or clean artist brush, avoiding liquid cleaners which can damage varnish layer. Display the painting away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent fading and canvas warping.
