This wonderful quality framed plated plaque by renowned medalist Antoine Vechte, ((1799-1868). was presented to a Richard Lonn in 1860 for Success in the National Art Competition It is signed Antoine Vechte and presented in a period rosewood frame. Further examples if Vechte’s work hang in the V & A. Although a silversmith by trade, Vechte was one of the pioneers of plated ware (this example is plate on copper, known as old Sheffield plate), for Elkington some of which were exhibited at The Great Exhibition of 1851. framed 24 cms square, diam dish 16 cms
