In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, advances in foundry technology allowed ironworks to mass-produce decorative sculptures and garden statuary based on classical Greek and Roman motifs. These busts were popular features in Victorian homes, conservatories, and formal gardens.

These items were produced by pouring molten iron into sand moulds, resulting in solid, heavy sculptures with textured surfaces. Over time, exposure to air and moisture creates a distinctive layer of surface oxidisation and rust patina.

Authentic pieces exhibit substantial weight, crisp details in the hair and drapery from quality mouldings, and visible casting seams along the sides. Surface pitting and genuine, uneven oxidisation further indicate historical age rather than modern chemical distressing.

Sculptural iron busts are frequently placed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or console tables to introduce architectural contrast against modern plasterwork. They are also styled inside conservatories amidst foliage to reflect traditional garden heritage.

Loose debris can be removed with a stiff nylon brush or soft cloth. To preserve the existing surface patina while preventing further corrosion, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax or beeswax polish.
