FAQs

Pastel painting gained significant prominence during the 18th century and experienced a major revival in the mid-20th century, appreciated for its luminous quality and direct application of dry pigment.

Pastel artworks traditionally utilise finely ground colour pigments mixed with a gum binder, compressed into sticks, and applied onto textured surfaces such as heavy-grain paper or prepared boards.

Authentic mid-century pastel pieces typically feature period framing, genuine paper ageing, artist signatures in pencil or pastel, and lack digital reproduction dots under magnification.

An original landscape pastel can be framed with a simple neutral mount and a slender wooden frame to complement both contemporary minimalist spaces and traditional room schemes.

Pastel art must be framed under glass with a spacer to prevent the delicate pigment from touching the glazing, and kept away from direct sunlight to avoid fading.
