Aaron Nejad Carpets and Rugs has dated this piece to the 1890s.
I am always surprised by the variety of Bakhtiari village weaving and their daring use of colour and design. This lovely rug fits the bill. Dating to the late 19th century, the colours are all derived from natural dyes with a high wool quality. What strikes me as special about this rug is the scale and drawing of the field ornaments and the precision of the overall composition. The palmettes are boldly drawn are are spaced very elegantly. The simplicity of the ivory border, composed of stylised floral ornaments and and thin meandering vine, complements the strong field design well. Overall, it is a beautiful piece and highly decorative. In very good condition, with good pile. There are a few small old repairs in a few places, but very well executed. Professionally cleaned in our own workshop.
