George II Burr Walnut Bachelors Chest Of Drawers

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Antique and Unique

A beautiful and unusual burr walnut caddy top chest of drawers of small proportions c1740 - 1750, with two columns of oak lined drawers. It has a quarter veneered and cross banded top, with similarly banded drawer fronts, and stands on bracket feet. The handles are not original but have significant age and suit the piece well. The timber is beautiful, and especially on the drawer fronts is highly figured.

Condition: This is in good original condition, with a lovely patina and some minor surface wear, mainly to the top. There are a couple of areas on the top where the veneer has lifted slightly. The only thing of note is that the structure seems to have sagged in the middle a little, possibly due to the central divider between the two banks of drawers, and as a result some of the drawers don''t sit perfectly in their spaces as the spaces are no longer perfectly level/square, though the drawers all run freely.
