Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French king size bed from 1910 follows the French Chateau style, fashioned in warm brown walnut with gilt bronze mounts and a pale green fabric cover on the mattress. The piece shows intricate geometric parquetry inlay, a carved central motif on the serpentine footboard, and cabriole legs ending in scroll feet. Brass handles sit on the bedside cabinets, which display marble tops and elaborate ormolu mounts along the frames. Measuring 140 cm high, 166 cm wide, and 210 cm deep, the bed accommodates a standard king size mattress. Suitable for a master bedroom or guest suite in a traditional home, this bedstead works well alongside the matching bedside cabinets to create a coordinated suite. The setup provides practical bedside storage while maintaining a formal aesthetic suitable for daily use. Regular dusting and gentle care of the polished timber surfaces keep the piece in presentable condition within a domestic interior.

FAQs

Louis XV style furniture, originating in eighteenth-century France, is recognised by serpentine curves, cabriole legs, intricate parquetry or marquetry woodwork, and ornate gilt-bronze ormolu decorative mounts.

These pieces typically feature fine wood veneers such as kingwood, walnut, or rosewood arranged in geometric parquetry patterns, paired with cast bronze or brass mounts and polished marble tops on accompanying bedside tables.

Authentic revival pieces feature hand-cut joinery, thick timber veneers, heavy cast-bronze mounts with hand-chased details, and natural oxidisation on original hardware and marble surfaces.

Pair ornate wood and gilded details with neutral linen bedding, soft wall tones, and contemporary minimalist lighting to balance the detailed craftsmanship and maintain a calm aesthetic.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, apply beeswax sparingly to preserve the timber, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilt-bronze mounts to protect their natural patina.
