Antique Caucasian prayer rug, Karabagh region of scarce design.
Circa 1880.
A superb example of a Caucasian Armenian prayer / altar rug with very scarce design. The rug is of a compartmented design with the mihrab at the top, below this are three compartments containing large 'bird head' medallions with the lower compartment with design elements related to the tree of life. Each compartment is divided by a band of floral rosettes. The rug is framed by an ivory ground border of the so called 'Jerusalem' design.

The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium/low pile.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
This rug is a superb display item and would make a great wall hanging.
