In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Nineteenth-century landscape paintings frequently emphasise dramatic natural scenery, atmospheric light effects, and realistic depictions of rivers, forests, and mountainous terrain, reflecting romantic and realist movements of the period.

Authentic pieces from this era typically feature oil paint applied to stretched linen canvas or wooden panels, housed within heavily carved and gilded gesso frames constructed from pine or hardwood.

Authentication involves examining the canvas weave, underlying stretcher bars, oxidisation of the oil paint pigments, and the construction techniques and patina of the accompanying frame.

Pairing a traditional gilt-framed canvas with contemporary neutral walls creates a striking focal point, adding depth, historical contrast, and textural richness to minimalist or transitional rooms.

Preservation requires displaying the artwork away from direct sunlight and high humidity, avoiding chemical cleaners, and consulting a professional art conservator for periodic cleaning or varnish removal.
