A rich and fantastic tribal antique Karaja rug in great rustic original condition. Woven with unbelievable natural dyes, warm terracottas, glorious rare green dyes in the eight-pointed star design, and natural ivory in the main latch-hook medallion. Deep indigo blues and brick terracotta reds complete the stunning dye palette on this stunning late 19th century rug.
Karaja rugs were woven in the North-West of Persia, not far from the weavers of the Caucasus, which is why we see animal motifs and geometric designs from antique Caucasian rugs. Look for the lovely small Reindeer motifs shown four times around the central medallion.
