Description

19th century Caucasian rugs fall often have great charm. This one fits the bill well. Woven in the mountainous Gendje region of the Caucasian Mountains, this charismatic rug has wonderful wool combined with archaic geometric ornamentation and great colours culminating in a striking composition. The row of hooked stepped ornaments on the terracotta field is interspersed with colourful diamonds and other geometric figures. The ivory border repeats the idea of the hooked stepped figures. Note the two charming characters in the top right hand corner. In good condition, and professionally cleaned, this lovely rug has survived the generations well, and provides both decorative and collectible value to the discerning viewer. Professionally cleaned.
