Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Animalier movement emerged in 19th-century France, characterised by sculptors who specialized in precise, anatomically realistic depictions of animals. Artists such as Antoine-Louis Barye popularized these works, which were cast in bronze foundries for desktop and mantelpiece display.

Gilt bronze figures were created using lost-wax or sand casting methods before being hand-chased to refine surface detail. Gold was subsequently applied using fire-gilding or electroplating techniques to produce a metallic finish.

Authentic pieces display crisp hand-chiselling on feather or shell textures, natural age wear in recessed areas, and correct foundry or artist signatures. Antique bronzes also feature appropriate casting seams and threaded assembly fixings beneath the base rather than modern welds.

Small bronze sculptures function effectively on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or desk alongside leather-bound books and classic brass accessories. Positioning the piece near directional lighting highlights the detailed chasing and gilded metallic surfaces.

Dust gilt bronze regularly using a soft, dry natural-bristle brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid chemical polishes, abrasive cleaners, or water, which can strip gilding or induce unwanted oxidisation.
