Amazing early antique Amritsar carpet with a rare soft green border and early animal design with large floral motifs, again we can see early cloud-bands floating in the central design.  Woven around 1870  the dyes are all vegetable - the yellow being probably manufactured from Saffron.  Early green dyes have been used along in the border with muted red dyes for the main field colour.  Low pile is visible on this ancient carpet, this in many ways enhances the look and feel of this 150 year old carpet, with minimal old repairs the majority of the carpet is all original but in beautiful faded order.Amritsar rugs and carpets are produced in Amritsar located in the northwest of India, near the Kashmir region.
