Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century British watercolour painting was defined by atmospheric washes, precise topographical detail, and light-filled compositions. Inspired by Grand Tour travels across Continental Europe, artists frequently rendered Italian, Swiss, and Mediterranean vistas using delicate layering techniques.

Artists of this era used ground natural pigments mixed with gum arabic as a binder, applied onto heavy cotton or linen rag paper. The paintings relied on the natural tone of the underlying paper to convey light and highlights without the heavy use of opaque white pigment.

Authentic period watercolours show natural paper aging, such as light foxing, minor oxidisation, or toning along mount lines. Examination under magnification reveals fine wash gradients, period-correct paper texture, and consistent hand-applied draughtsmanship rather than mechanical print dot patterns.

Frame the artwork with an acid-free mount and a slim gilt or dark wood moulding to complement modern wall tones. Position the piece within a gallery wall arrangement or layer it on a sideboard alongside ceramic vessels to add historical depth to contemporary spaces.

Keep watercolours away from direct sunlight and high UV sources to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation. Frame the work using museum-grade UV-protective glass and conservation-grade archival matting in a temperature-controlled environment.
