FAQs

Historical landscape oil paintings typically capture natural scenery such as mountains, rivers, and forests, reflecting the artistic conventions and prevailing aesthetic movements of their period of creation.

Authentic period pieces are generally constructed using woven linen or cotton canvas stretched over a wooden frame, painted with linseed oil-based pigments, and often housed within hand-carved or gilded wooden frames.

Authenticity is evaluated by examining the type of canvas weave, the ageing and craquelure of the oil paint layers, the presence of oxidation on the reverse, and the construction methods of the accompanying frame.

An antique painting can serve as a focal point in a contemporary room by hanging it against a neutral wall to create a striking contrast between historic depth and modern minimalism.

Preservation requires hanging the artwork away from direct sunlight and high humidity, avoiding chemical cleaners, and periodically consulting a professional art conservator for surface dust removal.
