This charming rural landscape depicting the famous Bolton Abbey belonging to Lord and Lady Bolton of Chatsworth House.
Walter John Bayes. R.W.S (1869 London-1956)
Bayes was born in 1869 in London. He studied at the City and Guilds Technical College at Finsbury (1886-1900) and at Westminster School of Art (1900-02). He exhibited from 1890. He was headmaster of the Westminster School of Art from 1918-34, lecturer in perspective, Royal Academy, from 1929, and directer of painting, Lancaster School of Arts and Crafts, 1944-49. He exhibited at many Art Galleries including Birmingham, Carfax & Co gallery, Fine Art Society, Goupil Gallery, Liverpool, Leicester Gallery, New English art Club, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute, Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in watercolours.
