Aaron Nejad Carpets and Rugs has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Dating to around 1870, the archaic design elements and a very free drawing make it feel like a genuine pre-commercial weaving. The lovely natural dyes have mellowed to a harmonious perfection, in particular the terracotta red, greens and yellows. The triple medallion field design is ubiquitous, but the myriad details around the medallions spontaneously added by the talented weaver makes this piece vibrant and very individual. Note also the rare border composed of repeating octagons each of which is filled with a star and swastika. Stand back or get close-up...this soumac is a beauty, a rare piece of textile art.
