FAQs

Bronze animal sculptures gained immense popularity during the 19th century, particularly through the French Animalier school, which focused on realistic depictions of animals in natural or expressive poses.

These pieces are typically created using the lost-wax casting method, resulting in solid or hollow bronze figures that are often mounted on polished bases of marble or slate.

Authentic pieces usually feature natural patination, fine chiselling details post-casting, and weight indicative of genuine bronze rather than resin or spelter, alongside appropriate wear on the base.

They make striking focal points on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables, adding a touch of classical elegance and texture to both contemporary and traditional rooms.

Maintain bronze by gently dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the patina from moisture and handling oils.
