Description

A high quality mid Victorian carved oak aneroid barometer c.1880. Broad turned and decorative carved polished oak case, white dial to the aneroid movement set behind bevelled edge quarter plate glass with centre reading marker set in a polished brass bezel. Full working order, superb colour and patina, presented in immaculate condition. Measures 9" diameter x 3" deep.

Invented in the mid-19th century, the aneroid barometer replaced mercury barometers for domestic use by utilising a sealed metal capsule to measure atmospheric pressure without liquid.
