What is a partners desk?

A partners desk is a double-sided workspace featuring drawers and cupboards on both long faces. It allowed two individuals to sit opposite one another in a shared office. These pieces require substantial floor space because they are designed to be viewed from all four angles in the middle of a room.

How do I care for leather top desks?

The leather writing surface should be kept away from direct sunlight to prevent the grain from drying out and fading. Periodic treatment with specialised leather balms maintains suppleness and preserves the gilt tooling. Avoid placing wet glassware directly on the hide, utilising coasters to protect the toned surface from water rings.

Can these desks be disassembled for moving?

Most pedestal desks separate into three distinct components consisting of the two drawer pedestals and the heavy top board. This modular construction assists with transport through tight doorways. Securing the internal drawers with locking mechanisms prevents them from sliding open during relocation.

How do I distinguish Victorian from Art Deco desks?

Victorian desks emphasise dark solid timbers like mahogany and oak, often featuring carved bracket feet and moulded drawer fronts. Their proportions lean toward heavy traditional revivalism. Art Deco examples utilise exotic veneers such as burr walnut and satin birch, displaying clean geometric lines, polished skyscraper silhouettes, and minimalist hardware.
