How do I seat six people comfortably?

These tables extend by swinging out the outer legs to support both drop leaves, turning a compact surface into a large oval dining area. Position chairs carefully around the turned underframe to ensure guests have adequate legroom beneath the fixed central top and swinging gates.

Are these tables suitable for daily dining?

Solid timber construction makes these pieces robust enough for regular meals and family gatherings. Use protective mats under hot dishes and liquids to preserve the polished oak surface and historic finish over time.

How can I tell a seventeenth century table from a revival piece?

Early pieces display hand-tooled joinery marks, pegged joints, and deep patination accumulated through centuries of domestic use. Revival versions from the early twentieth century often show machine-cut components, lighter golden oak tones, and uniform turning styles.

What maintenance does solid oak require?

Keep timber surfaces clean using a soft, dry cloth and apply occasional traditional wax polish to nourish the wood grain. Avoid placing tables near direct heat sources or strong sunlight to prevent the oak planks from splitting or warping.
