How do I place a cheval mirror in a room?

Position the piece against a wall where it receives adequate natural light from a nearby window. Ensure there is sufficient clearance in front for the frame to tilt on its pivots. Allow enough space to step back and view your full reflection without obstruction from surrounding furniture.

What is the difference between a Regency and Victorian mirror?

Regency frames often display cleaner classical lines influenced by ancient Greek and Roman designs, dating from the early nineteenth century. Victorian pieces tend to be heavier with more ornate carving and darker timber finishes. Examining the turning on the upright supports helps clarify the period of manufacture.

Can these mirrors support themselves safely?

The heavy wooden base and splayed legs are engineered to keep the swinging mirror frame stable during daily use. The pivots hold the glass securely at your chosen angle. Ensure the floor surface is level so the stand remains steady and secure.

How do I care for the wood and glass?

Dust the mahogany or walnut frame regularly with a dry cloth and apply occasional clear wax to nourish the timber. Avoid silicone polishes that build up residue over time. Clean the mirror glass using a mild glass cleaner sprayed onto a cloth rather than directly onto the plate.
