What are antique silver trinket trays?

These are small decorative dishes made from silver or plated metals, designed to hold personal items like rings and pins. They reflect the design tastes of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, serving both functional and ornamental purposes on dressing tables.

How were these trays used?

People placed them on dressing tables, desks, and hallway surfaces to keep loose pocket contents organised and secure. They provided a safe, designated spot for daily accessories such as calling cards, coins, and small jewellery pieces.

How do I care for silver trays?

Gentle cleaning with a soft cloth helps maintain the metal shine without damaging delicate period engravings or applied details. Avoid harsh chemical dips, storing the pieces in dry conditions to prevent excessive tarnishing of the silver surface.

How do I identify Edwardian trays?

Edwardian pieces often feature lighter, airier designs influenced by neoclassical revivals, dating from the early years of the twentieth century. Maker marks and hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal provide definitive clues regarding the exact year of production.
