Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency side cabinet chiffonier dates from 19th Century Britain and exhibits dark brown mahogany construction with an original French polish finish. The piece incorporates flame mahogany panels, an intricately carved arched crest, scroll shelf supports, and a cushion drawer above twin cupboard doors enclosing a single adjustable shelf. Further detailing includes hand-turned bead mouldings, plain turned columns at the cabinet ends, turned oval applied mouldings to the plinth, and original ring-turned squat feet, complemented by a brass keyhole escutcheon and tassel pull. Measuring 101 cm wide, 47 cm deep, and 137.9 cm high, the cabinet functions as a storage unit and display surface within a living room, dining room, or hallway. The proportions allow placement against a wall, while the shelving and enclosed cupboard space accommodate books, glassware, table linen, or decorative objects. The surface area supports lamps, ornaments, or framed photographs.

FAQs

Originating in the early 19th century, a chiffonier is a small, low sideboard or side cabinet designed to provide storage while serving as a decorative surface for display.

High-grade mahogany, particularly flame mahogany veneers, was the primary wood utilised, often complemented by hand-carved accents, brass fitments, and secondary softwoods like pine or oak for drawer linings.

Authentic Regency pieces typically feature classical proportions, hand-carved motifs such as acanthus leaves or scrolls, hand-dovetailed drawer construction, and rich natural patination on the mahogany surface.

A Regency chiffonier functions well in contemporary hallways or dining spaces, where its warm mahogany tones complement neutral walls, structured artwork, and modern lighting.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and damp environments.
