Prometheus Antiques has dated this Victorian Pike Fishing Painting to the 1870s.
This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.
The whole is well painted with lots of detail in the landscape and around the figures. The painting does not appear to be signed which is not unusual for this type of work which is provincial and likely commissioned by a local landowner. The painting is in good condition, it has been lined in the mid twentieth century, has the odd mark and minor old repair. The whole has a great country house look and is mounted in a good quality gilt frame probably dating to the 1920’s, perhaps when the painting was lined. This is a rare and unusual nineteenth century sporting oil painting that is ready to hang. C.1870.
