CKB Ltd Emporium & Collectables has dated this Chinese Xiuyan Jade Carving to the 1940s.
A large and impressive Chinese carved Xiuyan jade / serpentine hardstone group, extensively carved and pierced with lotus, seed pods, scrolling foliage and a prominent traditional Chinese cash-coin motif.

The carving is accompanied by its Chinese factory identification label, naming the Xingwang Jade Ware Factory, Xiuyan County, Liaoning Province, China (辽宁省岫岩县兴旺玉器厂), together with handwritten reference CA-85.

THE CARVING
Worked from attractive pale celadon to yellow-green translucent stone, the sculpture forms an elaborate three-dimensional composition of overlapping leaves, flowers, lotus seed heads and curling stems.

Extensive pierced openwork allows light through the composition and gives considerable depth. Individual leaves are finely incised with veins, while the seed pods have carefully defined seeds.
At the centre is a large circular Chinese cash coin with its traditional square aperture. Combined with the lotus and abundant seed-bearing plants, the composition evokes traditional themes of prosperity, abundance and good fortune.

At approximately 26cm high, 21cm wide and 1.6kg, this is a substantial carving with excellent display presence.
FITTED HARDWOOD STAND
Presented on a dark fitted hardwood stand, shaped to accommodate the irregular base of the stone, with moulded border, pierced decorative apron and short feet.

FACTORY LABEL / PROVENANCE
Of particular interest is the surviving Chinese identification label bearing:
辽宁省岫岩县兴旺玉器厂
Xingwang Jade Ware Factory, Xiuyan County, Liaoning Province
and handwritten reference CA-85.

The label provides useful provenance connecting the carving directly with Xiuyan County, Liaoning Province, rather than it being simply an unidentified Chinese hardstone carving. It will be supplied with the sculpture and should be retained with it.

MATERIAL
Described as Xiuyan jade in the recognised Chinese traditional/trade sense. Much green Xiuyan material is gemologically serpentine-group stone rather than jadeite. This carving has not been laboratory tested and is conservatively described as Xiuyan jade / probably serpentine hardstone.
