FAQs

This genre typically features dramatic depictions of mountainous terrain, lochs, and moody skies, reflecting the romanticism associated with the Scottish wilderness during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Authentic period works are typically executed with oil pigments on stretched linen or cotton canvas, housed within gesso and wooden frames, often finished with gilt or painted details.

Authentication involves examining canvas ageing, stretcher frame construction, pigment composition, and artist signatures or exhibition labels under ultraviolet light and magnification.

A large-scale artwork functions as a focal point in a room, pairing effectively with traditional or transitional decor styles when hung at eye level with balanced directional lighting.

Paintings should be kept out of direct sunlight and high humidity environments, and dusted gently with a soft, dry brush without applying chemical cleaners to the canvas or frame.
