Description

An impressive and very well made antique mahogany serpentine chest on chest of drawers. This is in the antique Georgian style, and it dates from around the 1930’s.

It is of great quality, with beautiful flame mahogany veneers and cross banded drawer fronts. It is a great size with lots of storage space, there is also a useful pull out slide that comes out of the middle. This stands on bracket feet and has a lovely overhanging cornice.

We have had this recently re-polished, it is in excellent condition for its age, with just some minor historical wear remaining here and there. This also comes apart into two pieces for ease of transport.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four King Georges of Britain, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber.

Master cabinetmakers typically utilised solid mahogany and veneers over secondary softwoods like oak or pine, employing hand-cut dovetail joints for drawer construction and brass batwing or drop-handle hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, original backboards, brass hardware wear, and the presence of tool marks consistent with period woodworking techniques.

Pairing historical timber furniture with contemporary minimalist surroundings creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship, often balanced by neutral wall colours and modern lighting.

Protect antique wood by maintaining stable humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and treating the surface periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
