The Uffizi Boar, also known as the Il Porcellino, is a famous Hellenistic marble sculpture in Florence, which itself is a copy of a lost Greek bronze original. During the Grand Tour era and subsequent centuries, European craftsmen produced miniature copies in various stones and metals for collectors.

Serpentine is a hydrous magnesium silicate mineral featuring a mottled green or dark grey-green colouration. Artisans historically employed hand chisels, abrasive grit, and polishing compounds to shape and finish these dense, tactile mineral blocks.

Authentic period carvings typically exhibit tool marks consistent with hand-working, natural weathering patterns, minor edge wear, and historical patina within the recesses of the stone. Modern resin casts or machine-cut items lack the subtle irregularities and mineral variations found in genuine hand-carved serpentine.

This type of decorative object adds texture and historical weight to surfaces such as mantelpieces, bookshelves, or study desks. Pairing it with books, ceramics, or organic elements helps integrate its classic form into modern minimalist or traditional schemes.

Serpentine should be dusted gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid abrasive scratching. Water, chemical solvents, and aggressive cleaning agents should be avoided to protect the natural mineral surface and historical finish.
