.

Dimensions:

Height – 188cm/ Width - 125cm/ Depth - 45cm / Surface Height - 87cm

.

CONDITION REPORT:

In good antique condition for its age, with wear consistent with age and use. There is historic woodworm, as expected with a piece of this period — most notably to the drawer interiors and back, with minor evidence to the front. This is long inactive and has been treated as a precaution. The drawers run smoothly, though they do not sit completely flush within the frame. There is a historic burn mark to one of the shelves, forming part of the piece’s working life. General surface wear, marks, and age-related imperfections are present throughout. Structurally solid and sound, and displays well.

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the four British monarchs named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by architectural proportions, robust construction using native timbers like oak, and understated decorative detailing.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid quarter-sawn oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, pegged mortise and tenon framing, and brass drop handles with escutcheons.

Authenticity is indicated by timber shrinkage, hand-planed surfaces, irregular tool marks, hand-forged iron or cast brass fixings, and natural patination accumulated over centuries of use.

Such pieces serve as functional focal points in dining rooms or kitchens, providing open shelving to display earthenware or ceramics while offering enclosed storage beneath.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and apply natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood without building up synthetic residues.
