Victorian oil paintings often focus on romanticism, realism, or detailed landscapes, reflecting the cultural shifts and artistic developments of the nineteenth century.

Artists of this era typically used oil paints applied to stretched canvas or wooden panels, housed within heavily carved and gilded plaster-on-wood frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the canvas weave, stretcher bar construction, pigment composition, craquelure patterns, and the age and construction techniques of the accompanying frame.

Pairing a classical gilded artwork with contemporary minimalist walls creates a striking visual contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the piece.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, and dust the canvas and frame gently with a soft, dry brush without using liquid cleaners.
