Description

Gents Omega Seamaster wrist watch, 1961.

The watch has a 17-jewel calibre 268 hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 18,404,814 which dates it back to 1961.

The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the signed Omega winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in lovely condition, just some unevenness to the end of the winding crown. The screw-on case back has the Seamaster logo to the outside, and the Omega logo to the inside along with the case reference 14389-12-CSP which is correct for the calibre 268.

The lens has a couple of short light scratches, only about 3mm long, not too detrimental at all.

The signed dial looks to have been professionally refinished at some point. Original hands.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Introduced in 1948, the Omega Seamaster line was built upon the brands wartime waterproof watch technology for the British military, eventually evolving into a rugged yet refined timepiece favored by divers and civilians alike.

Timepieces from this era typically featured stainless steel or gold-capped cases, acrylic crystals, and hand-wound or automatic mechanical movements crafted with high-precision brass components.

Authenticity is verified by checking the serial numbers engraved on the movement and inside the caseback, alongside correct dial signatures, logo placement, and hallmark stampings.

A vintage timepiece pairs effortlessly with tailored suiting, knitwear, or smart-casual attire, adding a subtle nod to mid-century sophistication without overwhelming contemporary aesthetics.

To maintain functionality, vintage mechanical watches should be serviced every three to five years, kept away from magnetic fields, and protected from moisture unless specifically rated for modern water resistance.
