Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The George III period, spanning from 1760 to 1820, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a transition from heavy mahogany designs influenced by Chippendale to lighter, more neoclassical forms associated with Hepplewhite and Sheraton.

Cabinetmakers during this era predominantly used solid mahogany, often complemented by secondary structural timbers such as oak and pine for drawer linings and carcases, finished with brass swing handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, timber shrinkage consistent with age, hand-planed secondary woods, and minor irregularities characteristic of hand tools rather than modern machinery.

Pairing a dark wood Georgian chest with minimalist walls, modern abstract art, or contemporary ceramic lamps creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich grain and historical character of the piece without overwhelming the room.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heating vents to prevent timber splitting, and nourish the surface periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone-based polishes.
