FAQs

An antique oil painting is typically defined as a work of art created using pigment suspended in a drying oil, produced more than a century ago, reflecting the artistic styles and techniques of its specific historical period.

Traditional oil paintings were typically created using linen or cotton canvas stretched over wooden stretcher bars, pigmented oil paints derived from minerals and plants, and natural varnishes for protection.

Authenticity is assessed through examining the canvas weave, pigment composition, stretcher frame construction, artist signatures, and inspecting the surface for craquelure and natural ageing under ultraviolet light.

An antique oil painting can serve as a focal point in a contemporary room, creating a sophisticated contrast when paired with minimalist furniture, neutral walls, and directed picture lighting.

Preservation requires keeping paintings away from direct sunlight and high humidity, avoiding chemical cleaners, dusting gently with a soft dry brush, and consulting a professional conservator for cleaning.
